Boston/Cambridge, MA (April 2018) – Just in time for the Boston Marathon and in celebration of ArtWeek, Royal Sonesta Boston teams up with the Sneaker Museum to present a pop-up lobby exhibit, detailing the history and impact of sneaker culture on sports, music, fashion, animation and the arts. The sneaker exhibit will be on display in the hotel lobby from Friday, April 13 through Sunday, May 6, 8:00am - 11:00pm with free admission.
On Wednesday, May 2nd, from 5:30-7:00pm, Sneaker Museum founder and collector Rick Kosow and other sneaker aficionados will be on-site to answer questions and talk about their passion for the shoes and all they represent.
“Sonesta has always had an affinity for the arts and that extends to pop culture. We are so thrilled to welcome this exhibit to our hotel as hundreds of marathon runners from around the world are checking in,” said Royal Sonesta Boston general manager Michael Medeiros.
“We are very excited to be participating in ArtWeek and bringing a portion of our eclectic collection to Royal Sonesta Boston. I’m looking forward to sharing my lifelong passion with such a wide audience,” said Sneaker Museum founder and collector Rick Kosow. “People will be surprised by the innovation in sneaker art, design, and technology over the last 30 years, and how it not only reflects the times, but has expanded the way we experience our footwear.”
The collection will display vintage running shoes, as well as a mix of iconic sneakers from Michael Jordan, Boston Celtics, prolific musicians and artists including Hendrix, Grateful Dead, Warhol and The Beetles, stylized high-fashion sneakers and related art.
