How does a nationally acclaimed chain of seafood restaurants reel in customers when opening its first location in the Northeast? Seattle-based McCormick & Schmick's Seafood Restaurant hired CM Communications. During a week of pre-opening festivities, CM gained media coverage for the restaurant's mascot, a 50-foot 275-lb. inflatable king crab, which reigned over the restaurant from the rooftop of the Park Plaza Hotel. We also worked with City Hall to secure Mayor Menino's participation in a festive, fishnet ribbon cutting ceremony, securing placements in local print and trade press media. As the countdown to opening day continued, we hosted a series of cocktail parties for select groups in Boston, culminating with an intimate grand opening bash for 1,500. Our efforts resulted in McCormick's quickly gaining local recognition and prominence in a town already deluged with seafood restaurants, and positioning the company's continued expansion in the Northeast.
